Thurnwood was a redundant farm near Mappowder, Dorset.  It was sold by Dorset County Council.  For reasons too fantastic to explain we bought it on 2 hours notice without any legal due diligence.  So much for a lifetime in the law.

The project was a large classical extension to the East with improvement of the existing house.  It came with 18 acres of farmland, farmhouse and garden.  The farm structures included concrete ways and yards, derelict structures, large and small barns and sheds and full slurry pits.  All were cleared save for the milking shed (shown) and the calf sheds (shown).  We converted the milking shed into 2 holiday cottages and the calf sheds into stables and built a new large barn (shown).

As with all my windows the glazing bars are just less than ¾” (17mm) thick so conveying the deceptive appearance of fragility. There is hall on ground floor (shown) and on first floor (shown).  I made the front door case on site using standard mouldings and frost proof corbels from a small supplier in Addington.  All piers caps (24 of them) and garden steps were cast by us on site using casting boxes made from standard mouldings for steps and boxes from Geraghtys for pier caps.
