We sold Kilfamma and the Lodge but retained 2 acres and half of the riverside oak woodland within which we built an octagonal house.
The octagon geometry enabled us to form a deep verandah around the house. It also allowed 3 of the 8 bays to have views through the trees to the river below.
By creating 11’ ceilings and a shallow pitched roof we were able to extent the rafters by more than 6’ thus allowing a generous depth to the verandah. At each corner of the roof and verandah we sited tapering octagonal columns with internal steel columns. To provide a dining room a kitchen and fourth bedroom we excavated the sloping site to create a 2 storey structure facing the river with one storey behind. Save for the lower floor the windows were in gothic tracery.
