My best man James Gibbons (at both weddings!) is a successful barrister. He lives with his wife Sarah at Church Hanborough Oxon. Their house is 17th century with a late 18th century addition. I was asked to prepare drawings for the secondary staircase and replacement doors and windows. The Conservation officer seemed pleased.
This led to designs of large double doors between the drawing room and morning room. Finally I was asked to design a reconstructed first floor to provide a generous staircase and sash window rising to a reconstructed landings all as shown in the following images. The effect was delightful since all I was doing was to provide what would have been common place in 1780.
